Apply a 1 4 inch bead of flooring or construction adhesive along the center of the expansion joint. Installing transition strips is an often overlooked part of the installation of hard surface flooring. Position a scrap piece of the transition strip you re using on the floor next to each of the stops and cut out the bottoms of the stops flush with the top of the strip using a handsaw.
